The All-American solution for the sustainability in the United States
The American government is presently on track to treble its capacity for solar production by 2024. The domestic solar manufacturing capacity expansions announced since the President took office will increase the current 7.5 gigatonnes of capacity by an additional 15 gigatonnes by the end of his first term, for a total of 22.5 gigatonnes by the end of his first term - enough to enable more than 3.3 million homes to switch to clean solar energy each year. To accelerate progress and build a bridge to this American-made clean energy future, we must increase short-term solar panel supply to support construction projects in the United States right now. This is because grid operators throughout the country are counting on planned solar projects to come online in order to guarantee that there is enough electricity to fulfill demand and that we can continue to deploy solar at the rates required to meet the President's climate goals.
Key Stats
Solar power is now more economical, accessible, and widespread in the United States than it has ever been. Solar power capacity in the United States has increased from 0.34 GW in 2008 to an estimated 97.2 GW currently. This is sufficient to power the equivalent of 18 million typical American homes. Solar energy now accounts for more than 3% of US electricity generation, in the form of solar photovoltaics (PV) and concentrating solar-thermal power (CSP).
